The Making of a Spy
by A Well-Traveled Man
Language: English
Categories: Fiction » Coming of Age
Content Rating: All Ages
William Armstrong Jr. (Will) met Sofia Guerrero in college when Will was a junior, and Sofia was a sophomore. They started dating and became exclusive the next year. Sofia got pregnant during her junior year. Will was a senior, and they married, then Kane was born. Sofia was able to graduate a year later, on time, with Will’s parents' help caring for Kane. Will was recruited by the CIA upon graduation because of his father's background in intelligence. When Sofia graduated, she was also recruited by the CIA for her language skills, beauty, and skin color. She could blend in easily in the Middle East, Europe, and South America.
Once Sofia graduated from the farm, she was assigned as a NOC, and she was gone. Will cared for Kane with his parents' help during the day. Sofia and Will remained married but realized they would have relationships outside their marriage. Sofia, due to her NOC status, and Will, out of need for intimacy. Will’s liaisons were discreet because of Kane but also because of his job. Technically, he had to report any relationships beyond a casual date. So, he arranged a series of friends-with-benefits encounters to bypass the reporting requirements.
Unknown to anyone but Grandfather, he had a friend who was a retired geneticist. Oliver Baer, PhD, worked on many dark off-the-books programs for the CIA. Although he had officially retired, he kept a lab behind his home and continued the research he had abandoned. His discovery was earth-shattering and dangerous. Oliver knew it would be exploited by those assholes who pushed him out. It would also get him killed for his discovery.

I agree with another reader, I have all of your books and agree you are getting better. Now if we could start getting book 2's it would be great. Keep writing.

One of the best he has written!

This story was one of the best written by him. Discounting the telepathy and that their isn't any sexual intrigue it would be a standard spy novel. Add a splash of sex and you will be dipping in to James Bond territory. There were still a few editorial things, but definitely much better editing. Overall an excellent story.

Your books keep getting better

There were no repeating paragraphs (yea!). Previous books by this author had completely repetitive parts interspersed with occasional plot points that were actually interesting. For example, "The Unintended Spy" did this and after a while, the only parts I found interesting were the spy parts. This book is essentially ALL those spy parts. It made for a MUCH MORE INTERESTING read!

As stated before locations and time to reach them is an issue but the story itself is excellent.

Better story; step back in editing
Reviewed it on June 29, 2026
This is a better story- no aliens or magic water pools. Though a repeated spy plot.
Editing is a step back from the last story. Once again, the word “not” is missing a few times; so the actual sentence says the opposite of what the author means. Also there are some regular word choice errors.
But- hooray!- the major plot device is resolved! There is plenty of room for a sequel, but it isn’t necessary this time.
The author’s specialty: prosodic flow, is again apparent, and enjoyable.

This book is better written then other books. My only real complaint about this book has to do with all the aliases. It got to the point that when the name Kane was mention I had forgotten that was the characters name LOL. As aonther reviewer pointed out there were all the repeated paragraphs like in other books so the story flowed better. There was not the normal wake up, work out, do shadow ninja walk, eat breakfast, kick 25 people in the balls lol.
A Well Travelled Man, I doubt you read these reviews but on the slim chance you do. How about writting some book twos for your stories?

Better proofreading.

I have bought everything he has written on here and really enjoyed them. The stories are enjoyable although he uses the same pattern over and over again. He still has the same problems with negatives, eg. did instead of didn't or could instead of couldn't but I may be getting used to them as they don't seem to bug me as much as usual.
Initially I thought it was a much better job of proofreading but then there were more and more mistakes. I think he dictates the story and initially does a good job of proofreading but then he doesn't bother.
As per the first review, Yes St. Andrew's is in Scotland and not a taxi ride outside of London.
Though a lot of things bother me the books are worth it for the money!

I'm in the 5th chapter and can tell that the book will not be finished by chapter 20 and will need to wait to see how it comes out.
Finished the book and at least the initial problem is mostly closed in this book.
This story was much improved, but you still need a proofreader.
Defiantly finish this storyline or one of the unfinished stories before a new one.
