In compiling a “best of” volume, I had used a combination of “story-hits” and reviewers’ “feedback” to assess popularity, rather than relying on my own prejudicial judgement and preferences. I have also by necessity, had to preclude all the “Harper Valley” tales which are catered for exclusively in “The Complete Harper Valley” and “Harper Valley: A Postscript.”
Ineligible for selection also, were the twelve short stories featured already in “Room Service and Other Tales of The Erotic.” Few prospective buyers I think, would appreciate a double-up of story-title.
