Teaming With The Shrew
by Peter Argonis
Language: English
Categories: Fiction » Romance » Contemporary
Content Rating: Older than 17
Ricky Ryder, an established adult movie performer, is shocked by the sudden death of a coworker and friend, making him reexamine his life and goals. Quitting the adult movie business, he gets roped into doing a cameo in a cable network sitcom, just for giggles and bragging rights. Things mushroom from there into a new career and a loving relationship with a truly special woman.
You may know a bit of Ricky Ryder from a cameo in Suddenly Rich Kid and from a reference in Girl Refurbished. This is his story.
Several characters from the Philadelphia and Clearwater Universes have their appearances, such as Alexandra Greenbaum, aka Xasha, and Melanie Renault from In Her Genes, but also Lucy and Chris DiBiasi from Suddenly Rich Kid.
I hope you will like this fusion of two universes.

Great characters and great use of past story lines.

The characters of this story were realistic and made me want to know more about them. The use of characters from previous stories was very interesting and the ability to weave them into this one was done very well. The ending sounds like there will be other to come and I am looking forward to reading them all.d_oh_7
Excellent Read

It was great how characters from a variety of his prior works were easily intertwined within the story. Tough to put down. Ending insinuates further stories.oriontwin
Light hearted romance novel style story.
Reviewed it on July 10, 2025
This is set in the author's modern era of the Universe first established chronologically with Anthony Carter set in the very late 18th to early 19th century. It's contemporary with his "Philadelphia" stories of which "Suddenly Rich Kid" is one, and his small-town Montana series. The various series of romantic stories are intertwined with main characters showing up in cameos in this story as well as each others'. Another reviewer criticized the author's apparent lack of serious drama in this story. If you're expecting massive, life-altering trauma; then this story is not for you. It does fit in nicely in the modern era of the author's other stories. A highly recommended read.bill.gilpin
Different Direction

A different direction than most of Peter's books but a wonderfully crafted story. Even wove in ties to the older works. Well written and fun.darren_d_evans

Read in a single session. Fortunately purchased on a Saturday evening. Very good read. Slightly stretched the bounds of believability in one or two places but not totally beyond them.dougt3612
An enjoyable ride.

This well written novel is an excellent story of a man's battle to overcome his history. The love affair between the "hero" and the love of his life is both funny and fun. I hope that a follow along story is in the works. I could not put this book down

Good modern story

Reading a story from Argon with no cannons and fossil-fuel powered vehicles is a bit of a shock. But some things endure: the writing is solid, the characters are interesting, and there's still some English nobility buried in the background. The MC is a smart porn star. He narrates the story as he transitions out of porn, into mainstream acting. The big problem, which kind of plagues the author's writing, is that there is so little struggle. Where problems do occur, they are glossed over pretty heavily: the actress almost raped is saved by her own taser; the near-fatal car accident results in a few days in a hospital bed and a bad haircut. Basically, if the problem doesn't involve losing a limb or an eye to French artillery, the author doesn't know how to describe it or detail the after-effects. Otherwise, the story is interesting and fun to read. While the MC is a bit of a Marty-Stu, he's fresh and new to us. If there's a sequel, it might be a harder slog though.goran.pehrman

A Very Good Book - Not Quite Up to the Thomas Grey Series
Reviewed it on June 24, 2025
Peter Argonis is one of a handful of authors that I consistently follow. Whenever he releases a book or starts a new series, I immediately open it. Some of his stories rate amongst best offered on this site - namely, In her genes, Young Thomas Grey, the Return of Thomas Grey, and the Adventures of Young Will Potter. This story introduces us to Rick who is in the process of ending his career as a adult actor. We follow Rick as he experiences the highs and lows of this transition. Like any other HEA story, Rick winds up winning both personally and professionally. It is a good story with some hiccups (I never knew that the San Diego Padres were a football team) but it is not quite up to the standards of the other stories noted in this review. It is not as well-developed. Is it worth your time to read it? Heck yes. While not as well developed as other stories that he has written, it is nevertheless a good story. Definitely time and effort. Buy it! Recommended! Anytime Peter Argonis releases a story, you know that you are in for a treat! It has to be the Chargers of course. I must have read A Flawed Diamond by Jay Cantrell when I wrote Padres, the Baseball franchise. It's corrected. Fortunately, the Chargers played in San Diego until January 2017. Thanks for the lenient review!!
