Johnny Pulaski was a late bloomer. He was short and scrawny until the summer after ninth grade. He was small enough that even his older sister called him runt. It’s very well written. It's not very realistic, but why would we want to read a boring realistic story. The characters are well developed and the story is well laid out. I look forward to its continuation in the next book.mep385

Joe J has been a much downloaded writer on another site. He posted a notice there that he was adding to this book to cover Johnny’s USMC enlistment. This is not that version, so I am disappointed, however I suspect he will update this one when he finished the rewrite. Joe J’s 2nd blog on another site corrected my misunderstanding, as he is writing a new book for the time between joining the Marines and book 3 in Egypt, not new chapters for this. So enjoy this; Joe J is a talented writer.Bishop

Good story. I've enjoyed most of the authors other work. My only major gripe is grammar and punctuation. Missing words in some sentences and commas. But still understandable. Worth a buy.master.twitch1
Overall a decent read, and well worth the price.

The overall story was fun and engaging. Though it seemed like the author was glossing over otherwise important subject matter to avoid being pulled in too many directions towards the last third of the book. The ending left something to be desired, though it did leave it open for more installments so that is a plus.jtb4camp
Did not like the way the story ended?

From the way the story went, I thought that Elaine and Johnny had a future together, but the other book of him six year later has no mention of her. HE JUST LEFT HER AND WENT IN THE ARMY LIKE SHE WAS NOTHING. Do another reviewer who mentioned that this was not the updated version. I think it is because there are extra chapters here. Uh, I think 29, 30 and 30. They just cover a gap from when he graduated high school till he actually went into the service, which was the army, he is writing a second book that will cover his army time as a ranger .
