Valerie loved to paint but she was tired of painting the same thing over and over. She needed to shake things up and what better way to do that than to do some figure work? Her son was a handsome young man, so why not paint a classical portrait of him? He agreed to be her model before he found out what the details of sitting for her would be like. In the first place he had to stand. But that wasn't the hard part. The hard part was that she wanted him nude, standing by a Roman plinth, looking regal.
