The question my term project was supposed to answer was: Is breast size the result of evolution, or just a better diet than women had in the past? I got the idea while I was at a museum and noticed that all the naked women in the older paintings had modest or small breasts. Assuming they were representative of women in their era, that meant breasts had gotten larger over time. It could be evolution, in which men chose big-breasted women to mate with. Or it could just be the intake of more calories and better health care. I couldn't test the diet idea, but the women in my family came up with a way to test the evolution side of things. That was to make anatomically correct copies of women's breasts, and then see which ones were the most popular with a cross section of men. That involved making a plaster cast of different sizes and types of real breasts and then have a group of men vote on which one they liked the most. It wasn't scientific, but my professor said it would be interesting. So, now where to find five or six women who had different looking breasts? Well, there were five in my family and they all volunteered to help. The only problem was that the prep for making the cast required that a special lubricant be spread on the area to be casted, so the cast would come off easily when it cured. And that meant I had to rub that lube all over the breasts of my sisters, my mother, my aunts, and my grandmother. They all liked it. A lot.
And so did I.
