Cattleman's Lament

Sarah's horse returned to the ranch riderless and with a piece of mane shot off. Her mother knew she'd gone to a neighboring ranch to get a new dress. Her husband wasn't there so Molly tracked her daughter herself and found a young man named Bobby and a dead body where the tracks ended. The young man was the son of a sheep herder who had bought a cattle ranch and was not welcome in the territory. He had been looking for two of his men, who were supposed to be moving a flock to different grass. The dead man was one of those men. There were tracks all around that convinced both Molly and Bobby that Molly's daughter was, for unknown reasons, now traveling with members of the local Indian tribe. The mystery only got deeper and the member's of both families were pushed together in ways that made it difficult, and then impossible to hate each other. Could fifteen-year-old Bobby find the missing girl and get both her and her mother back home safely? It wasn't easy and nothing went the way they thought it would, but in the end there were three marriages and the start of three new homesteads. How that happened is what the book is about.

A historic tale on grazing, and, you know, other stuff...

Interesting book. Lots of sex and history, in no particular order. Just what the reader of this author expects. Cowboys, and sheep flocks, cattle herders.
