Book 12 of The Rise of David picks up with King Yuven at Emerald Cauldron Sect, poisoned by Norwal City after the coup in Imperial Beast City. The toxin hides in the consciousness field, not the body. David finds it with Faiyar’s help but cannot yet make an antidote, and the sect is nearly out of herbs. He sets out for Jipsdale’s Alchemist Fair, picking up the Three Bandits along the way.
The road cuts through Bloodthirsty Thunderhawk territory. David steals heavenly thunder fruits that resonate with Thunder Palm, draws the Nesser family’s eye, and learns Inferno Devil fire is already loose in the world. In Jipsdale he fights in the arena for coin, meets judge Gregory Stark and his disciple Pearl, and enters the Fair. Roderick schemes to bury him David answers by refining a near-perfect Seventh Level Top Tier pill, then wins an audience with the veiled count.
A treasure map, ice soul fragments, and the Archaic Body cultivators pull the group into the far north. David finds Feenix and Aislin under Quinley Tall’s protection, but Josephine is gone — taken, and later seen beside Inferno Devil as a lifeless puppet. In a sealed palace he claims Demon Flogger, cowes trapped demonic spirits, and teleports Lynette away before she can drag him to her master.
The hunt for the Ice Soul Pill turns into a war of factions: Stellaris Sect, the Talls, the Nessers, and the Five Slayers of the Demon Seal Alliance. David survives an eleventh lightning tribulation, comprehends illusion nascence after nearly drowning in visions of his past, and leads a desperate strike that destroys a demonic altar. The book ends with the survivors boxed in by a thousand-year arcane array, a demon soul remnant closing in, and David racing to break the seal before the Five Slayers finish them.
