The Adams household has been referred to as many things over the years, 'The Madhouse on Woodlawn', and 'Cirque du Steve', being two of them. As chaotic as it appears to an uninitiated outsider, it's actually a very ordered home, a haven of rationality in a very irrational world. Like everywhere else though, that haven is about to have its walls smashed down by the events of September 11, 2001.
Even after learning, they've been devastatingly impacted by the events of the day, Steve and his family continue their lives true to non-judgemental form. From protecting their Saudi neighbors from being mistreated, and Steve doing the same for his Muslim employees, everyone is seeking balance in this strange new world. In the meantime, Steve and NIKA are once again forced to face off with more than one stone in their collective shoes, and this time the gloves are coming off.
As disruptive as the events of September 11th were, the kids continue to grow up, and with that comes inevitable conflict. While Matthew and Chelsea are a haven of stability, planning on a future with her moving to Chicago, things aren't quite as settled for several of his siblings. Stephie is having a particularly hard time, so much so she risks straining her relationship with Nicholas (and the rest of her family for that matter) to the breaking point. Birgit and Kara clash as Birgit continues to assert her independence, and lurking in the background is the not-so-secret knowledge she's closer to asking a question she simply shouldn't. As for Jesse, he's finally reached a point of equilibrium around his sex life versus his father's. Unfortunately, Loki is lurking in the background, leading to a devastating revelation that could change his relationship with his father for good!
