Reader's Comments:

"This is a great story, but I gotta say, the last paragraph is what did it for me. The whole tale strikes so many of my nerves it's hard to describe, so I won't try. Let's just say that I relate strongly to the protagonist. The author has really captured the theme. I found it easy to put myself inside that big LeMans, cruising down 95 with a pretty girl next to me and the warm Carolina wind in my hair, Tracy Chapman, REM, and Sinead O'Connor on the radio. (Sigh) Wish I had a do-over. Well told, well written, and beautifully edited. Great job." (ctc)

"You made me cry DAMN you." (bj)

"Excellent! Love the character development, the dialogue was so well done I felt like I was just listening to these people talk on a road trip (I never mastered that art), and the ending - oh, yes, the ending! Very nice. I do love a long-lasting relationship story." (sm)

"Another great story! I must admit I was lost on who Mimi was to CJ. At first I thought girlfriend, then I find out she is much older, then I thought a good family friend that knows his struggles. Then I find out they are related so I thought older sister, well crap I was wrong again, as she is his Aunt. Thanks for keeping me on my toes." (hc)

"I really liked this one and know the hurt involved with rejection of a mother. It is something that haunts you for a lifetime but the way CJ dealt with it is absolutely great." (py)

"Singing and driving. One of my favorite pastimes. Not my stretch of I95, but it sure made me want to try that drive. Great story!" (td)

"Beautiful writing and excellent storytelling. You pulled at our heartstrings and set a very melancholy tone, but left us with a happy ending after all. I like the shout-out to air and water in there as well. A nice touch of humor. Road trips, music, and memories all go hand in hand. This is a sad story, but it is also a happy tale of escape from a terrible life. Because the two of them had both gone through it made them good for each other." (un)

"Brilliant writing. I could picture every half mile of the journey. A lovely slow build up. I loved the distraction caused by trying to work out the relationship between Mimi and CJ. The little addition of mild incest (is there such a thing) added to the relationship between the two. You could sense their frustration at all the missed opportunities for showing their love for each other. A brilliant read." (nj)

"This story had me mildly interested, like a slow-moving river meanders your raft along and by the time you realize what is actually going on, you're at your destination. I am NOT going to go gaga over this story, I swear. But I will say this, if you can take me from "What is this?" to having a tear in my eye? Then you did what few authors can do and that is have me emotionally invested in a tale." (th)

"To me, the highest art of an author is not to explore the fucking human condition, but to bring humanity to life. To give wings to love. To give the reader some reason to believe that gracious love can overcome. Thank you for this." (mc)

"Wow, what an emotion rattling read. I admit my eyes tears and my throat got a lump in it. Loved the presentation and details usually worry my small brain, but the story grabbed me so much. Thank you for your artistry with words." (ze)
