Good Medicine - Residency I
by Michael Loucks
Categories: Fiction » Literature
Format: EPUB
Content Rating: Older than 17
Having graduated from medical school and now being a full-fledged Doctor, DOCTOR Michael Peter Loucks' life is about to change again. With this, his original goal from elementary school has been fulfilled. The new goal he wasn't expecting back in fourth grade, having to find a new wife and a mother for his daughter, has been fulfilled as well. All should be well, right?
Post-graduate life is often messy, and the life of a newly minted Doctor can be especially messy. While he's earned the trust of most of his colleagues thanks to his outstanding performance as a student, now the stakes are higher, and the rules have changed. Rather than be directly supervised, he's now one of the many Doctors supervising an ongoing rotation of Third and Fourth year students. Hospital politics also begin to intrude, and more than once, Mike finds himself needing to thread the needle for more than just stitching up patients. He'll find himself forced to push the limits of his training at times, with real lives hanging in the balance in ways he never had to deal with as a student.
Outside of the hospital, having finally achieved his dream, what's next? Can he balance the needs of his professional life with those of his family, friends, band, and congregation? It's a tall order, and the strain of trying to do so does begin to take a toll on him. If he fails, can he truly be happy and maintain that sense of fulfillment from achieving his goals? The only way to find out is to read on as Doctor Loucks tackles his first year as a trauma surgeon.

It is a great continuation of the previous books. Well written. Keeping a great suspense most of the time. A little fastidious with the number of medical patient histories/reviews. When is the next book coming out? I can't wait.jonburne
A Fascinating Read

I have just completed reading this book. Looking back I feel that the grand story arc did not progress much. However I was so absorbed in the story I rate "Residency I" as the best yet in whole AWLL universe. As with all Micheal Loucks books this one was packed with details of time, place, relationships and action. I am tempted to ask "Will the real Micheal Loucks please stand up." They fictional doctor and the author must surely be be one and the same. Yet, reading the detail in the original AWLL series and "Climbing the Ladder" it's hard not to believe the author Loucks has also been a financier and computer company executive. “Residency I” ends with the heart stopping cliff hanger so typical of Loucks books. I will now go into a prolonged hibernation awaiting the next book. In the meantime I hope there will be one or more books in the other AWLL universe to tide me over. The author has announced he be will offline until July. I fervently hope he is taking a well earned holiday from his millions of words keyboard and will be back at that keyboard with many more stories to tell. If you have not read all three “streams” in AWLL I strongly recommend you do. The stories stand so far above the classification of erotic literature I would put them in a class of their own. Indeed I have virtually stopped reading other stories in the genre because of the AWLL stories. One final comment: It took me a long time and several false starts to get into the “Good Medicine” series of books. All the Loucks writing is detail, character and plot dense. To any first time reader I say persevere. You will be richly rewarded.greenerskytops
