WORD COUNT: 5600 words

I lean back, my legs propped up on the dashboard of my matte SUV, a bottle of tequila clutched in one hand while the other taps rhythmically to the blaring music reverberating through the vehicle. Laughter from Luis and Juan, my father's lieutenants, fills the air, intoxicating the night. I smile, looking around, my heart full from the camaraderie. Right now, I am more than just the Don’s daughter; in this moment, I am a warrior, one of them-raw, unfiltered, and unafraid.

“Next week's ambush is gonna be legendary,” I declare, raising my bottle as if making a revolutionary proclamation.

Luis leans forward, mischief glinting in his eyes. He raises a brow. “That's quite some balls you have, little one. Do you think you can outsmart those guys? They've got more guns than you've got ideas.”

I toss my hair back, a defiant spark igniting in my eyes. A scoff escapes my lips as I turn back to look at him, flipping my blond hair in the process. “Please. They're no match for my foolproof plan. Just wait and see.”

The other lieutenants in their cars who are listening in through earpieces laugh boisterously, cheering me on. My heart swells with pride.

“Viva la Serpiente!” I cry into the night air, referring to the name of our cartel.

“Viva la Serpiente!”

A few rounds of shots go into the air in celebration, and I do the same, feeling the alcohol coursing through my blood.

Juan snickers, shaking his head. “You sure got the hype. You're a wild one, Princess. Just don't get us killed, all right?”

I laugh, the sound bright and carefree. “No promises! You could end up in a body bag or worse, I don't know.”

As we head back to our base, we speed through the city, weaving in and out of traffic, and I feel the rush of adrenaline pumping through my veins. I love this life-the chaos, the danger, the way it makes me feel alive. I'm not supposed to be out here, living at this pace, but I prove my worth. My father sees my potential, allowing me to roam free as long as I don't cross certain lines or get into massive trouble. I'm glad he lets me; otherwise, I would be home right now, sitting around as a “Princessa.”

I suppress a shiver. Even the thought makes me want to hurl. I'd rather have my independence and die trying to survive than be locked in and live forever.

We pass under glowing streetlights, the world outside flashing by in a blur of neon colors. I lean back against the seat, eyes half-closed, letting the music wash over me. In these moments, I am not just the daughter of a don but a rebel, taking risks and living wild and free.

An intoxicated laughter bubbles out of me abruptly, making me laugh even harder.

Then, all of a sudden, a sleek Rolls Royce swerves in front of us, cutting dangerously close. My laughter morphs into fury in an instant, my upper lip curling into a snarl.

“What the hell?” I shout, my pulse quickening as my grip tightens on the door. “Who does this fucker think he is?”

“Hot shit, I'll tell ya,” Juan says, excitement lighting up his eyes.

“The fuck? I can't just let them get away with this bullshit! Let's show them what happens when you mess with us,” I growl, anger swirling with the adrenaline in my veins. “Gimme the wheels,” I order, and we switch drivers mid-drive. The SUV surges forward, and we begin to tail the Rolls, baiting it, weaving dangerously close, laughter spilling into the night air.

“Steady!” Luis warns, his voice sharp, but I'm already lost in the thrill of the chase. The tension swirls in my stomach, the challenge and the cockiness of the driver igniting something primal within me. The Rolls tries to move away, but it's too late. In a reckless maneuver, my SUV nudges the luxury vehicle, and the world seems to slow down as we watch the Rolls flip, landing with a violent crash that echoes through the streets.

With no hesitation, I pull over, reaching into the compartment of my car. “Get out!” I yell, heart racing as I leap from my SUV, gun already in hand. The rush of power and victory pulses through my body, and I can't help but laugh in amusement at the chaos I've caused.

“You deaf? Come out!” I shout again, eyebrows furrowing in annoyance. Luis and Juan follow my lead, stepping down from the car, their laughter mingling with the chaos. I hear the other cars pulling up as well, watching me to see how I handle this. They begin to pull out their guns and cock them toward the stranger, trigger-hungry already.

“Stay back, boys. I'll handle this myself,” I say to them.

“Aw, princessa,” they coo, making me roll my eyes.

“Are you sure you can handle it?” Luis asks, a taunting smirk on his face.

I shoot him a glare. “Do you want me to practice on you?”

As I get closer, the thrill begins to dissipate, replaced by a strange unease. My fingers hover over the trigger, holding it toward the figure. Then I see movement-a figure crawling out from the wreckage, and it all goes to shit from here.

It happens in a split second. One moment, I see the glint of a gun being pointed at me from the ground; the next, I shoot, the bullet piercing the man right through the eyes. There's silence.

“Kaya…” Luis trails off, his voice faltering as we all recognize the man. My heart drops. The moment I shoot, I realize it's the shipping magnate who just signed a lucrative deal with my father a week ago. The shock freezes me in place.

And then… there's an uproar.

“What the hell have you done?!” Juan snaps, turning me to face him. His face is a picture of fury and disbelief, while I must look disoriented. Heat sweeps through my face as fear curdles in my stomach.

I sober up quickly. The adrenaline that had fueled me moments before now feels heavy, like lead in my stomach. I can only stand there and listen, the thrill of the night turning into something darker and more sinister. The weight of my actions presses down on me, forcing me into silence.

“Do you have any idea what you've done?” he continues, desperation creeping into his voice. “Your father will-”

“Don't mention my father!” I snap, my heart thundering in my chest. I've always been reckless, but this is a line I can't take back. Juan flinches at my outburst, his expression a mix of surprise and anger. The men around me are now guarded, wary of my incompetence. They had followed me without question, but now they're caught in the tension crackling in the air. Their silence is filled with unease. It's then that I realize I'm not just a reckless rebel anymore, I'm part of a larger game I took for granted.

Without a word, I turn around and climb back into the SUV, trying to clear the fog in my mind. The doors open and slam shut, jolting me back to reality. Luis and Juan shout, their voices a cacophony that heightens my confusion.

“What the hell were you thinking?” Luis barks, gripping the steering wheel so tightly that his knuckles turn white. “You can't just mess with business like that!”

“Yeah, yeah. Juan has already ripped me a new one,” I reply soullessly, trying not to let my emotions seep through my voice. I see Luis's mouth open, preparing to cuss me out, but Juan places a hand on his shoulder, stopping him.

“Just let it go already.”

My heart races as I try to process what just happened. The memory plays over and over in my head like a broken record. I suppress the panic as I glance between the two men, simmering in their anger and disbelief.

“Do you realize who that was?” Luis's voice is sharper than I've ever heard. “He's connected, Kaya. You've put us all at risk.”

“Yeah, and now we have to report this to Alvez,” Juan adds, his tone grim. “He's not going to take this lightly. We have to hope he doesn't take our heads off our bodies.”

My stomach drops. “Wait, no! You can't tell him!” Terror seizes me as I scramble for the door, but Juan reaches back and grabs my arm, pulling me back.

“There's no choice,” he says, his voice low and firm. “You know how your father is. This isn't just some prank. You crossed a line. You have to face the consequences.”

I feel a rush of frustration and fear. They're right, but the reality is too harsh to accept. These men have always respected me, but now I sense a wall between us, loyalty to my father that surpasses their allegiance to me. I'm just a daughter, not a commander, and my world is about to come crashing down.

“Stop!” I shout, realizing the futility of my protests. They're already on their phones, scrolling through contacts, their expressions hardening as they prepare to deliver the news.

Defeated, I slump back against the seat, the adrenaline fading and leaving me feeling hollow. There's no point in arguing; I've messed up, and there's no way to undo it now. My father's name carries weight, and my reckless behavior has put us all in jeopardy.

The men speak in short, clipped sentences, their focus entirely on the phone call. I strain to hear, but it's muffled and distant, drowned out by the sound of my own heart pounding in my ears.

“Yeah, it's done... No, she didn't think... It was Mr. Dennislov… yes the shipping guy from last week...”

My breath catches. Dad will be furious-no, livid. The thought of his disappointment twists in my gut. I've never feared him before, not in a serious sense, but this feels different. This time, I have no idea what might go down. Will he be lenient, or will he treat us all with equal punishment?

“Take the car to HQ,” Juan instructs, his voice low and resolute. Luis drives, and the vehicle lurches forward, the cityscape whizzing past in a blur of lights and shadows. The atmosphere in the SUV is tense, and I feel the weight of our silence suffocating me. I've never been the one to cause trouble, never wanted to be the reckless daughter who tarnished her father's reputation. Yet here I am, trapped in a whirlwind, knowing I let my emotions take over.

We arrive at headquarters, and I step out, the cold air hitting me like a splash of ice water. Luis and Juan flank me, their expressions stern. They lead me inside, but not to my father's office as I expect. Instead, we turn down a dimly lit hallway that feels both familiar and foreign.

“Where are we going?” I ask, a sense of dread curling in my stomach.

“Just a precaution,” Juan replies, his tone clipped. “We need to figure out how to handle this before you talk to Alvez.”
