"Daddy, I really need to talk to you," Tabitha called out from the hallway, her voice a mix of urgency and hesitation.
Her father, Charles, a tall, stern man with a thick mustache and piercing blue eyes looked up from his newspaper, his expression unchanged. "What is it, darling?" he responded, his tone as smooth as the whiskey he often enjoyed in the evenings.
"I...I think something's wrong with my birth control," she mumbled, fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. "I've been feeling a bit...off lately."
Charles lowered his paper, his gaze locking onto hers. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice taking on a tone of concern that didn't quite mask his excitement.
"I've missed my period, and I've been feeling really nauseous," she continued, her voice shaking. "I'm worried that I might be...pregnant."
Her father's eyes grew wide, and for a brief moment, his façade of concern cracked, revealing the triumph behind it. He had been dreaming of this moment, the ultimate expression of his dominance over her. He had been switching her birth control pills for weeks, hoping she wouldn't catch on. Now, his plan was coming to fruition.
"Oh, Tabitha," he said, his voice filled with false empathy. "Let's not jump to conclusions. But if that's the case, we'll just have to make sure it's our little secret, won't we?"
Her heart sank. She knew what he meant but couldn't bring herself to acknowledge it. Instead, she nodded meekly, her eyes cast down to the floor.
"Good girl," he murmured, setting the newspaper aside and rising from his chair. He approached her, his steps deliberate and heavy. He placed a firm hand on her shoulder and guided her to the sofa, his grip tightening slightly as she sat down.
He knelt before her, his eyes raking over her body, lingering on her swollen breasts that had become more sensitive with the hormonal changes. "If you are pregnant, we'll need to make sure it's the right time," he said, his voice low and commanding. "You know how much I want a baby, and I'll make sure you're taken care of, but we need to make sure everything goes smoothly."
Tabitha's stomach churned. With a heavy sigh, she nodded, resigning herself to the reality of the situation.
"Let's do a test," Charles said, a smile playing on his lips. He rose from his knees and went to the bathroom, returning with a pregnancy test. "We'll find out for sure," he told her, handing it over.
trembling hands and disappeared into the bathroom. She didn't know if she was more scared of the result of the conversation that would follow. The moments ticked by as she waited, the silence in the house feeling like a thick fog suffocating her. When the two blue lines finally appeared, she felt a wave of nausea wash over her. It was true. She was pregnant with her father's child.
