edge of our bed, fidgeting with the hem of my favorite blue sundress, my heart thumping like it was trying to break free from my chest. Today, I was doing something big—something Daddy wouldn’t like, not one bit. But I wanted to go to town by myself, just this once. I wanted to feel brave, even if I wasn’t.
