Infidelity in the Shadows

Sandy looked out the window, her eyes following the sun dipping toward the horizon. A breeze rustled through her hair as she turned back towards the kitchen. The aroma of garlic and onions filled the air, mingling with freshly brewed coffee.

She straightened and felt a small thrill at sharing her cooking with someone else. Her husband, Walter, was away on business. Leaving her alone in their spacious house for days at a time. She couldn’t help but feel lonely sometimes. Walter’s absence couldn’t be helped. She recognized the financial advantage of meeting clients face to face.

Indeed, this small sacrifice for both was worth the reward.

If only he would come over. It had been two days since his last visit. Her husband’s best friend always checked on her at her husband’s request. She loved his company.

The knock on the door startled her slightly, but she composed herself and made her way to answer it. Standing before her was Jamil, tall and handsome in his crisp white shirt that hugged his broad shoulders snugly.

Sandy’s heart skipped a beat as she opened the door wider, feeling the warmth of the evening air brushing against her bare arms. Her eyes traced his tall frame, admiring how his dark skin glistened in the fading light, and she was struck by how handsome he looked in his crisp white shirt that hugged those broad shoulders so snugly.

She wasn’t alone anymore.

“Jamil,” she said, blushed slightly, seeing him there.

“What brings you here?”

“I just wanted to check on you and make sure everything was alright. After all, it’s my job, so to speak, when Walt is on business trips.”

He stepped inside, taking in the cozy home with a glance. The soft lighting, the comfortable furniture, the scent of garlic and onions mingling with the freshly brewed coffee she mentioned earlier.

“I should go. You’re about to eat,” Jamil added with a slight chuckle, following her back into the kitchen, where steaming plates of food were waiting for them on the table.

“No, no, Jamil, I’ve made enough for the both of us. I was kinda hoped you’d stop by and keep me company.” Sandy had already set the table in the kitchen, the small, intimate table for two.

“Smells wonderful.”

She beamed with pride as she watched his reactions to the cooking odors. Her thoughts drifted to Walter and how much he’d love this meal if he were here.

Their footsteps echoed softly against hardwood floors as they moved around each other. Jamil held her chair as she sat down. Took his own place, only inches from her.

When Jamil tasted her food, he closed his eyes in delight, savoring every flavorful morsel prepared by her hands. Sandy was even more self-conscious and excited at how much he seemed to enjoy the meal than she’d been when Walter ate with her.

As they ate together in comfortable silence, Sandy found herself relaxing in his company.

The silence between them wasn’t uncomfortable. Instead, it was filled with an undercurrent of contentment. It felt like they were in sync, enjoying each other’s company without the need for constant chatter.

Jamil took another bite of her perfectly seasoned pasta dish, his eyes closing in bliss as the flavors exploded on his tongue. She watched him, her heart fluttering slightly at how at ease he seemed with her cooking. They shared bites from each other’s plates like lovers do.

Discovering flavors and tastes together enhanced the meal they savored. Every moment, their dinner became a more intimate experience. Sandy’s heart raced. Jamil’s eyes dilated for a moment and returned.

Jamil pushed down the guilt of wanting his best friend’s wife.

Their hands brushed against each other accidentally, sending electric shocks through their bodies. Their fingers intertwined almost instinctively before pulling apart quickly, a momentary spark igniting something inside them both.

Sandy felt a heat rising in her cheeks but didn’t push him away. Instead, she leaned into him slightly when he moved closer to reach for more wine from the rack behind her. Their shoulders touched briefly before he retreated to the table again, but not before leaving behind a trail of warmth on her skin that lingered after he sat down again.

“This is amazing,” Jamil said between mouthfuls, his voice deep and sincere as he looked at her appreciatively across the table. “You really are an incredible cook.”
