Graduating from High School two friends, one male and one female, face life in the late 1960s. While Susan rushes forward moving to New York City, embracing the world eagerly, Dan indecisive and unsure of himself, stays in their hometown, where he sullenly muddles his way forward with no plan for the future. The paths they head down appear completely divergent, but in reality there is a strangely vague parallel to them. The difference is within themselves and how they react to the events in their lives. The two make their ways through those socially turbulent times, never noticing how each decision they make affects the courses their lives take in an era of Vietnam, "sex, drugs, and rock and roll" and "tune in, turn on, drop out". Neither one seems to be able to recognize the opportunities to change their directions when they see them as they head towards the climactic moments of their lives.
